Practical Beekeeping for Beginners
The Northern Virginia Beekeeping Teaching Cooperative offers Practical Beekeeping for Beginners, a series of weekly classes starting in Jan. /Feb., 2011 for about 2 months. Class size is limited and registration fills up so please register early. Classes are open to adults and children (age 9 +) who are interested in keeping honeybees. Books are included in the fee ($100 per family unit) and include: Diane Sammataro, The Beekeepers Handbook (4th ed.), Mid Atlantic Apiculture (MAAREC) Beekeeping Basics & Honey Bee Parasite, Pests, Predators & Diseases as well as handouts & membership in the local beekeeping association. Classes are taught by experienced beekeepers and include info. on buying equipment & live bees to start hives.
Three Classes- 1st night is “Meet and Greet.” 1) Tuesday (7pm) starts Jan. 31st at Luther Jackson Intermediate School: 3020 Gallows Rd., Falls Church 22042; 2) Wed. (7pm) starts Feb. 1st at St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes School: 400 Fontaine St. Alexandria 22302; or 3) Sat. morning (8:30am) at the Centreville library, 14020 St. German Drive, Centreville (starts Feb. 5th).
