The topic of the day is honey bee nutrition. The principle speaker for the Fall meeting is Dave Mendes from Fort Myers, Florida. He manages more than 7,000 colonies that are partially utilized for honey production and primarily for pollination Mr. Mendes is a member of the Honey Bee Technical Council in Florida, Beelogics Technology Advisory Board, Project Apis m., and President of the American Beekeeping Federation. His talks are entitled "A Year in the Life of Headwaters Farm", which outlines the different pollinations in California, Maine, and "Honey Bee Nutrition".

We have also been lucky enough to secure a few other well known speakers in Va Beek circles, including Brenna Traver, a Virginia Tech PhD candidate; Frank Wyatt, a queen breeder; and, Jim Haskell!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: David Mendes, President American Beekeeping Federation. Dave is a commercial beekeeper from Florida and has been pollinating up and down the east coast for more than 30 years, moving bees to the wild blueberry barrens in Maine, to cranberries in Massachusetts, apples and blueberries in New Jersey, and moves some of his 7,000 colonies to California for almonds.

Dave has lectured about his bees and CCD and what's changing in beekeeping. Dave has been a great spokesman for the beekeeping industry in the halls of Congress. His experience and insights are telling and worth listening too.
